    ANOTHER LIFE

    Drama

    10 Episodes X 60 Minutes

    More
In the not-too-distant future, an alien Artifact lands on Earth, marking humanity’s first contact with an alien intelligence. But it lies seemingly dormant, and we have no idea what it wants – whether this is the start of a friendship or a prelude to war.

Commander Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff) leads Earth’s first interstellar mission, travelling across the galaxy on a repurposed exploratory spaceship, The Salvare, to the planet where we believe the Artifact originated from. She and her young crew, along with an untested sentient A.I. named William (Samuel Anderson), face every danger both known and unknown in space, on what might very well be a one-way mission.

With great misgivings, Niko leaves her young family behind on Earth: her daughter, Jana (Lina Renna); and her husband, Erik (Justin Chatwin), a gifted scientist. As she flies toward the stars, Erik risks life and limb to make contact with the Artifact on Earth and encounters puzzle after puzzle. Will Erik crack the code before Niko reaches the alien planet? Will The Salvare’s crew discover the alien civilization is a friend or a foe? And will Niko ever be reunited with the two people she ventured out into interstellar space to protect?

Another Life is an examination of life in the vast emptiness of the universe and explores the lengths that we, and others, will go to in order to protect the ones we love.

    ALIAS GRACE

    Drama

    6 Episodes X 60 Minutes

    More
Based on the award winning novel by Margaret Atwood, Alias Grace is inspired by the true story of Grace Marks (Sarah Gadon), a poor, young Irish immigrant, who along with James McDermott (Kerr Logan), was convicted of the brutal murders of Thomas Kinnear (Paul Gross) and Nancy Montgomery (Anna Paquin) in 1843. James was hanged and Grace was sentenced to life imprisonment. Grace became one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of her time for her supposed role in the sensational double murder of her employer and his housekeeper, and was eventually exonerated after 30 years in jail. Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Marks was actually involved in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory.

The novel and the screen adaptation introduce a fictional young doctor, Simon Jordan (Edward Holcroft), who researches the case and begins to fall in love with the fascinating Grace. Although ostensibly conducting research into criminal behavior, Simon becomes obsessed with Grace as he seeks to reconcile his perception of the mild mannered woman he sees with the savage murder of which she has been convicted.

    WORKING

    THE ENGELS

    Comedy

    12 Episodes X 30 Minutes

    More
In this laugh-out-loud half-hour family comedy, created by Katie Ford (Miss Congeniality, Desperate Housewives) and Jane Cooper Ford (Listen Missy, Material World), a family of ne’er-do-wells must band together to keep their heads above water when their father and breadwinner passes away, leaving them a mountain of debt.

The Engels must all go to work running Dad’s storefront law firm, with one minor problem – daughter Jenna Engel (Kacey Rohl) is the only one who is qualified to practice law. Unfortunately for Jenna, this also means taking on her eccentric relatives as co-workers. Ceil (Andrea Martin), the self-absorbed and overly dramatic but fiercely protective mother works as the firm’s paralegal; Sandy (Azura Skye), a former pill-popper who has never worked a day in her life, is the receptionist and first line of defense at the firm; and Jimmy (Benjamin Arthur), a petty criminal and bad boy who is utterly devoted to his family, is the firm’s investigator. Jenna, the youngest sibling and ‘the good one’, becomes the unlikely family patriarch, running the law firm and keeping her crazy family together.

It’s not pretty, but it’s family.
