The filmmaker’s indie shingle SModCo Pictures has pacted with Halfire-CORE Entertainment to produce a second season of Spoilers exclusively for The Comedy Network in Canada.

“I’m ecstatic that Bell Media saw enough potential in Spoilers to make it a real live TV show for Comedy,” Smith said in a statement about his deal with the Canadian broadcaster.

10 new half hour episodes are set to be shot in Los Angeles in December, but those shows won’t be seen in the U.S. market, at least for now.

Hulu, which aired the rookie season of Spoilers, will not run the second season.

The TV series version of Spoilers is expected to have a more polished look than the web series, even as it retains Smith’s mix of frank blockbuster movie reviews, group chats and celebrity interviews.

Comedy Network parent Bell Media aired the first season of Spoilers on its Space sci-fi cable channel.

By bringing Smith’s series to Canada for an exclusive run, Bell Media is also continuing its long association with the American filmmaker.

“I’ve always dreamed of having Canadian parents, and now I kinda do!” Smith said.

His fascination with Canada dates back to growing up in New Jersey and watching the long-running Canadian teen drama Degrassi on his local PBS channel.

In 2005, the Clerks and Chasing Amy director starred as a fictionalized version of himself in a three-episode arc on Degrassi: The Next Generation, which was shot in Toronto by Epitome Pictures, and aired on Bell Media’s CTV network and Noggin in the U.S.

“For many years, Canadians have had a special connection with Kevin Smith, as has Bell Media,” said Catherine MacLeod, senior vp specialty channels at Bell Media.

“We’re thrilled to work with Kevin to bring the second season of the hilariously smart Spoilers to Canadians,” she added in her own statement.

Jordan Monsanto is producing Spoilers 2, with Noreen Halpern executive producing. Jason Mewes and Jennifer Schwalbach share associate producer credits.
